Email from the boss Mail sent by Narayan Murthy to all Infosys staff: It's half past 8 in the office but the lights are still on... PCs still running, coffee machines still buzzing... And who's at work? Most of them ??? Take a closer look.... All or most specimens are ?? Something male species of the human race... Look closer... again all or most of them are bachelors.... And why are they sitting late? Working hard? No way!!! Any guesses??? Let's ask one of them... Here's what he says... 'What's there 2 do after going home...Here we get to surf, AC, phone, food, coffee that is why I am working late...Importantly no bossssssss!!!!!!!!!!!' This is the scene in most research centers and software companies and other off-shore offices. Bachelors 'Passing-Time' during late hours in the office just bcoz they say they've nothing else to do... Now what r the consequences... 'Working' (for the record only) late hours soon becomes part of the institute or company culture. With bosses more than eager to provide support to those 'working' late in the form of taxi vouchers, food vouchers and of course good feedback, (oh, he's a hard worker... goes home only to change..!!). They aren't helping things too... To hell with bosses who don't understand the difference between 'sitting' late and 'working' late!!! Very soon, the boss start expecting all employees to put in extra working hours. So, My dear Bachelors let me tell you, life changes when u get married and start having a family.... office is no longer a priority, family is... and That's when the problem starts... b'coz u start having commitments at home too. For your boss, the earlier 'hardworking' guy suddenly seems to become a 'early leaver' even if u leave an hour after regular time... after doing the same amount of work. People leaving on time after doing their tasks for the day are labelled as work-shirkers... Girls who thankfully always (its changing nowadays... though) leave on time are labelled as 'not up to it'. All the while, the bachelors pat their own backs and carry on 'working' not realizing that they r spoiling the work culture at their own place and never realize that they would have to regret at one point of time. So what's the moral of the story?? * Very clear, LEAVE ON TIME!!! * Never put in extra time ' unless really needed ' * Don't stay back unnecessarily and spoil your company work culture which will in turn cause inconvenience to you and your colleagues. There are hundred other things to do in the evening.. Learn music... Learn a foreign language... Try a sport... TT, cricket......... Importantly,get a girl friend or boy friend, take him/her around town.... * And for heaven's sake, net cafe rates have dropped to an all-time low (plus, no fire-walls) and try cooking for a change. Take a tip from the Smirnoff ad: *'Life's calling, where are you??'* Please pass on this message to all those colleagues and please do it before leaving time, don't stay back till midnight to forward this!!! IT'S A TYPICAL INDIAN MENTALITY THAT WORKING FOR LONG HOURS MEANS VERY HARD WORKING & 100% COMMITMENT ETC. PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY SIT LATE IN THE OFFICE DON'T KNOW TO MANAGE THEIR TIME. SIMPLE ! Kayani good one...... i would like to narrate my experience in ...neelachal ispat.....which is a PSU... once our HRD Head told me .....MD says Palit is most ...UNDISCIPLINED.... asked him....why..??....he said you leave office at 5.30 p.m.  every day.... i said i am the most successful DGM.......heading 2 important Project Package... and every month i meet my Target......further as per my MD....only Lazy fellow cannot complete his work in 8 hours......so his/your ASSESSMENT is Totally wrong.... then added that the executive staying late.....are either Lazy.......do not have good rapport with the WIFE/Family.....doe snot want to spend ...evening with them..../ but Mostly CORRUPT......meet the CONTRACTORS in office after office hours.....to collect their ....PC  (percentage).......and they always carry an empty brief case from home for the purpose.....asked him to get the Brief cases checked.....after the payments are released to the Contractors......... well .....with my PUNCH....right on his FACE.....he had a feeble smile on his lips.... and left the place quickly....as there was a small gathering....in the lobby.... chandy thanks.....i would like to add....my MD...Dr Subrat Ray was MD Bhilai Steel Plant... prior to that he was Director Project/operation Vizag Steel Plant......he had revived the Vizag Steel Plants ....which was Rotting in Project stage for 9 years..... he was tipped to be Chairman SAIL......but he was overlooked....and Director Personnel Nair....became Chairman..( he was ED personnel under Dr Ray ).... he was selected by Mittal overseas....and was to join them in London..... at that time our the then CM J.B.Patnaik....called him and entrusted him to  take up Neelachal Ispat....from the scratch....only the Second hand Blast Furnace had been imported by his predecessor Biju Patnaik.....no land ....nothing....no finance.... Dr Ray with his uncanny determination....greed started in 1996....with 6/8 executives...of steel plants...in the level of AGM/DGM...s....and a couple of us from orissa private/public sectors......we completed the Blast Furnace, Raw Material Handling,Sinter Plant,... Coke Oven,..Power Plant....water n all auxiliaries, Rail Tracks....etc in 2000...and commissioned a 1 MT.....Plant ...with Total investment  of 2000 Crores....... why i described above in detail......?? he had the uncanny knack of revealing the TRUTH.....in an exemplary manner..... also he used to throw Parties.....with Family......but Booze flowed Freely.... he was a MAST Eater n Drinker......after a couple of Pegs....he used to  engage a Personnel executive....to provoke we few Whistle Blowers......to  Blow.....hot n cold.......our wives were there to Manage us there after..... Our BHEL Chairman V Krishanamoorthy was one such specimen. As a diploma holder, he became the Chairman of BHEL. then, Chairman of Sail, then Secretary, Dept of Industries and finally ended up in prison for Scam.

chandy well with handicap start( without any High connection ).....one has to go out of one s path.....to please the Bosses for right placement etc.....even in private sector like TISCO too.... EJ,....susil....n my Father in Law...N.C.Nundy....who was a famous Geologist...a Gold Medalist from Dhanbad School of Mines......field geologist who found Chromite ore mines in sukinda, orissa....way back in 1936.....were all victims of erratic,whims of Great Rusy Modi.....and his chamchas..... Krishnamurty....could serve his Bosses......and manipulated his way up.... of course in SAIL.....he infused some good Private sector WORK CULTURES.... which turned SAIL.....to PROFIT.......also corruption for political fund collection reached its PEAK.......and he ended up in Jail.....my MD Dr Subrat Ray too was by passed ....for the very reason.....Mr Nair was nearer to the Power Center..... this is Kali Yug so such things keep REPEATING...... cheers.....bijoy da
