There is 9 Main Departmental sites in our college, and CCF acts as the Axis of this network connection. Switching, Routing, Firewall like features are implemented through CCF as center point of connection.

At CCF there Implemented Devices with Following Specifications

1.       Layer -3 Switch [Catalyst 3750 series]

2.       Layer- 2 Switch [Cisco 2970 series]

3.       Firewall [Metal SE 3700]

4.       Router [Cisco 2821 Integrated Service Router]

5.       Servers [HP Portland ML350]

6.       Connection cables and Interfaces[6 core/12 core Optical Fiber Cable, Ethernet cable]

 

1.       Layer-3 Switch   In addition to switching function in layer 2 , also perform layer 3 operations. It helps to Implement VLAN .Traffic control is mainly done by this VLAN and its associated Access Control List. VLAN also forms Broadcast domain without the help of Router, simply using a switch .

3750 Cisco Catalyst fiber port(2) and 2 Gb Ethernet port is used in Layer -3750 Switch. It acts as Switch to all networks.Router is not used for this.Router only get into action only for high traffic, with low traffic firewall directly connect to BSNL.

2.       Layer-2 switch                 is used at CCF & Main Departmental sites for Normal switching Function Inside LAN.

3.       Hardware Firewall  Metal SE3700 for better Security.

4.      Router   Performs Routing Function between Networks.

5.      Servers  for implementing  NAS

6.      Connection Cables and Interfaces  9 Main Departmental sites connected through 12 or 6 core Single Mode Direct Burial optical fiber cable. Also Ethernet cables are used. Optical Fiber Cables are used for large distance building for reducing transmission delay. 6 core Optical fiber is used for sub departments, and these cables from sub departments terminates at LIU of nearest and Main Department sites.

-Cisco 29xx series(2970 for Fiber Connections[1 no], and 2950[4 nos]for Ethernet )

-Dlink switches(100 Mbps,24 port)[6 nos]

3.      Mechanical

-1 main switch

-1 subswitch

-One Switch for  each  Hydraulics Lab, Heat Engine Lab, and for PG Block .
