Dear ICCE Supervisors,

This is a reminder of the procedures regarding marking PACE Tests, below from November 2021

ICCE | Changes to Deviation

Please note that in the interest of increasing accuracy in marking and the reporting of student grades, the boundary for deviation will be changing.

To allow for a period of transition, the new requirement will come into effect on 1 April 2022, but may be implemented before this date.

National Coordinators, with input from National Moderators, may agree to a different date for transitioning their region to the new requirement, but this date should not be before
1 January 2022 and may not be later than 1 April 2022.

The new deviation requirement is as follows:

  • Where a deviation of more than 2 applies, the mark of the Moderator will stand.
  • Where a deviation of 2 or less applies, the mark of the FLM will stand.
  • Should a moderated test have a deviation of more than 2, then a further 2 tests per course must be sampled and moderated. If through the re-marking process a deviation of more than 2 is identified in any of the additional tests, then all the tests for that subject in that level must be re-marked (100% moderation).
  • Where the moderator finds the FLM has erred by more than 2 percent when calculating the final percentage, the mark of the Moderator will stand.

So any deviations greater than 2% result a new test score being recorded on the student’s SPC and subsequent certificate.

Attached is the detail again on how we should mark PACE Tests.  The more we agree as first line markers and moderators the less deviations and subsequent adjustments, which translates to quicker turn-around times and processing of final graduations and certificates.

Perfection is impossible but not the road towards it J

Thank you,
