VIP-2 Lalkar: A Sequel to the Hit Tamil Film Velaiilla Pattadhari
VIP-2 Lalkar is a 2017 Indian bilingual action comedy film directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth. It is a sequel to the 2014 film Velaiilla Pattadhari and has Dhanush, Amala Paul, Vivek, Hrishikesh, Saranya Ponvannan, and Samuthirakani reprising their roles, while Kajol plays an antagonistic role, marking her return to Tamil cinema after 20 years. The film was primarily shot in Tamil and dubbed into Hindi as VIP-2 Lalkar. The film was released worldwide on 11 August 2017 to mixed reviews.
Plot Summary
The film follows the life of Raghuvaran, a civil engineer who works for Anitha Constructions. He wins the Civil Engineer of the Year 2016 Award and is offered a job by Vasundhara, a chairman of a big construction company in South India, Vasundhara Constructions. However, he humbly refuses her offer, which offends her ego. She then tries to sabotage his career and reputation by using her influence and power. Raghuvaran faces many challenges and obstacles from Vasundhara and her allies, but he does not give up. He also has to deal with his wife Shalini, who becomes an authoritative and nagging wife after marriage. He eventually quits his job and starts his own company called VIP Constructions with the help of his friends and fellow engineers. He also teaches Vasundhara a lesson and makes her realize her mistakes.

The film was directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, who made her directorial debut with Kochadaiiyaan (2014). The film was written by Dhanush, who also produced it under his banner Wunderbar Films along with Kalaipuli S. Thanu under his banner V Creations. The music was composed by Sean Roldan, who replaced Anirudh Ravichander from the first film. The cinematography was done by Sameer Thahir and the editing was done by Prasanna GK.
Reception and Box Office
The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Some praised the performances of Dhanush and Kajol, while others criticized the weak script, direction, and music. The film was also compared unfavorably to the first film, which was a blockbuster hit. The film earned 43 crore at the worldwide box office, which was considered average for its budget and expectations.
