The dental staff at the Dental Studio of South Tulsa are trained and knowledgeable in some of the most modern dental techniques and procedures. As a patient of the Dental Studio of South Tulsa, you can be sure that you will receive the highest level of care even for the most basic cleaning services. We believe regular dental cleanings are critical not only for your dental health but also for your overall health and well-being. As you may know, dental and oral health problems left untreated may not only become painful, but they present the risk of spreading an infection to other parts of the body. That is why it is important to schedule your dental exams and cleanings to give yourself a head start on finding any possible problem areas. While regular brushing and flossing are helpful, some dental problems can only be corrected with professional dental tools. If you are a new patient, or it has been a while since you have visited our office, you may be a little nervous about visiting a dentist. While a dental checkup may be uncomfortable, it is less likely to be painful. Hopefully, the information we have provided for you will help put your mind at ease about your upcoming visit. With every dental exam, it is our aim to provide you with the best in care while minimizing your discomfort.

The first thing you may notice when you sit in the dental chair is a bright over light shining above you. This is important to help the dentist and dental hygienist see clearly inside your mouth. The dental hygienist will then remove as much of the plaque and tartar buildup that they can using small, metal dental tools to scrape it away. Plaque is a sticky film containing bacteria that coats the teeth. If left untreated, the plaque turns into tartar, a hard mineral deposit that can get trapped beneath the gum line and becomes hard to reach with simple brushing. Once the plaque and tartar are removed, the hygienist will then floss your teeth followed by brushing with a special electric toothbrush. A fluoride gel or foam is then applied to help prevent tooth decay which can lead to cavities.

Dental cleanings are generally recommended every six months for patients of all ages, but they may be required more often depending on the severity of your dental problems. If you are experiencing swollen and/or bleeding gums, you may need a cleaning more often to help prevent tooth loss. We also recommend following good dental hygiene habits such as brushing twice a day and flossing daily helps prevent future problems from occurring.

It is important to bring your baby in for their first checkup within six months of receiving their first tooth or by twelve months of age. Once their first checkup is complete, we recommend scheduling an exam every six months unless the dentist find a dental or oral health issue requiring more frequent visits.

HESI is a timed, multi-subject Admission test given to all Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology, and Radiologic Technology program applicants. Applicants will be charged an exam administration fee.

Whooping cough (pertussis) is an infection of the respiratory system caused by Bordetella pertussis bacteria. It mainly affects babies younger than 6 months old who aren't yet fully protected by immunizations, and kids 11 to 18 years old whose immunity has started to fade.

After about 1 to 2 weeks, the dry, irritating cough changes into coughing spells that can last for more than a minute. During a spell, a child may turn red or purple. At the end of a spell, the child might make the characteristic whooping sound when breathing in or may vomit.

Many infants and younger kids with whooping cough have the coughing fits and accompanying whoop, but not all do. And sometimes babies don't cough or whoop as older kids do. Infants may look as if they're gasping for air, look red in the face, and may actually stop breathing (called apnea). During very bad spells, their face might turn purple or blue for a few seconds.

Call the doctor if you suspect that your child has whooping cough. The doctor will take a medical history and do an exam, and may take nose and throat mucus samples to be checked in a lab. They also might order blood tests and a chest X-ray.

Doctors treat whooping cough with antibiotics. It's thought that antibiotics work best to shorten the length of the infection when people take them early in the illness, before coughing spells begin. But even when they're started later, antibiotics are important because they can stop the infection from spreading to others. If someone in your family has whooping cough, ask the doctor if preventive antibiotics or vaccine boosters for other family members are needed.

Some kids with whooping cough need care in a hospital. Babies and younger children are more likely to be hospitalized because they're at greater risk for problems like pneumonia. Other possible problems include trouble breathing, periods of apnea, needing oxygen (particularly during a coughing spell), and dehydration.

Whooping cough can be life-threatening for infants younger than 6 months, so they almost always need hospital treatment. In the hospital, children may need suctioning to clear their airways. Their breathing will be watched closely and they'll get oxygen if needed. A child who shows signs of dehydration or has trouble eating might get Intravenous (IV) fluids. Precautions will be taken to prevent the infection from spreading to other patients, hospital staff, and visitors.
