Isanybody else having a probelm pairing an Apple Pencil. I insert it into my new 2gen iPad Pro 12.9 and it briefly shows the dialog to Pair and then shows it connected, but then disconnects, and then I get an Error that the Pencil took to long to pair. Then it doesn't work.

After one year i tried to use my pencil again and i have the same kind of problem. First i got messages there wa sonly 3% battery left. Charging didn't helped. I tried a reset of the ipad pro even a hard reset, nothing helped. I went to the apple store and they couldn't help, they don't know if there is a problem and the warranty was expended.(14 months, pffffff ) Back home i tried to charge the pencil true USB with the adaptor and after 15 tries of plugging it in and out of the ipad suddenly i got connected for 7 seconds, then disconnected again, and then connected again for a few seconds. Because of the short period of connection i could see that the battery of the pencil was at 100 % again but still it can't keep the connection. The icon of bluetooth at the top of the ipad is blinking all the time. After awhile the same problem of the beginning had came back and I get an Error that the Pencil took to long to pair. And again the same pairing problem came back. Ipad sees the pencil but it can't pair with it. Its a brand new pencil i only used it once when i bought it and left in the box for over a year. So it must be a hardware problem, so apple fix it please.

i'm having the same exact issues. Trek all the solutions other posters have noted with no success. However I can pair a $19 Wacom stylus with no problem While the $99 Apple Pencil is virtually useless until Apple does something.

I am not having the same problems, what I am having is the Apple Pencil Losing paring. I have my pencil is never less than 2 meters from the my iPad Pro 10.5, I am on iOS 11.0.3. Everyday I have to plug the pencil into the port so it pair. This didn't happen in iOS 10.x

My friend had an apple pen that was never opened. sadly he passed away, but I just opened it now as i mispalced my own one and connected it to my Ipad. the Pair option comes up and goes really fast. If i do manage to press Pair, it says the Pen is connected but immediatly say Not Connected. I have done all the software updates on my Ipad but still the same issue....Please help.

It is amazing! I didn't use a hairdryer but instead placed the pencil on my stomach that was very warm for no more than 30 seconds, attached it to my iPad and voila it started to work. No idea what's going on there but thank you everyone on this forum!

Confirming the hair dryer worked on a 1st gen Apple Pencil paired with 6th gen iPad. Hadn't used the pencil in close to a year and was having pairing issues. Held it under the hairdryer and boom - works perfectly again.

My Apple Pencil is not changing on my iPad, which is charged at 100%. I learned that it's bad for your Pencil to stay dead, I'm at 1% and not able to write with it. It attaches magnetically to the side of the iPad and charges for a couple seconds then no further charging. I've cleaned the iPad with no resolve. Can this be fixed?

ion battery ( smaller than the eraser head on a REAL wooden pencil ), the Pencil needs to be constantly charged up to some significant charge level ALL THE TIME, even when not using the Pencil for prolonged periods of time.

June 2024--I attached my apple pencil (gen 2) to my 5th gen iPad Pro (12.9 inch) earlier today and it showed the battery was dead. I left it magnetically attached to the iPad for the entire afternoon, came back, and it still showed 0% on the apple pencil battery. I tried the hard reset suggestion in the above comment and the moment my iPad started back up, the apple pencil was showing 100% on the battery life. So apparently one of the issues is that the pencil is charged, but the iPad isn't recognizing the charged battery, so it was simply displaying a dead battery.

Has anyone else found that leaving their Apple Pencil 2 attached to their iPad Pro 11 overnight drains the battery anywhere from 15%-25%. I did a test of leaving the pencil attached over night and saw a 17% loss in the iPad battery. The pencil was fully charged when I left it connected overnight. So it really had nothing to charge on the pencil. Then I charged the iPad to 100% and left overnight without the pencil attached and the next morning the iPad battery was still at 100%.

Seems like the Apple Pencil 2 is constantly drawing power from the iPad Battery. Was just wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior. Would like to keep the pencil attached so I know where it is but not if it keeps draining the battery.

I would LOVE a feature in iOS to turn off the charging of the pencil or only allow charging below a setup percentage. I want to be able to carry my pencil connected to the iPad, but NOT have it drain the battery all the time.

Cognizant Apple employees read ALL feedback generated from all of the various feedback pages and transfers the data to the proper and responsible Apple teams and personnel , but NO Apple employees will ever respond with any type of direct, individual replies from the feedback you post.

I know the apple pencil is meant to charge from the iPad. However what is unclear is if it should be such a large drain even in standby. If it is indeed normal it would be nice for Apple to just say don't keep apple pencil on ipad during overnight standby to avoid heavy battery drain.

I also have the Magic Keyboard, I attached this and Shapr asked me if I wanted to change the control method to keyboard. I said yes, used the pencil with the keyboard attached then removed the keyboard and the pencil worked fine.

I am having a similar issue. Keeps flashing Pencil not connected. I can use my pencil but the second it gets more than an inch off the screen it looses connection to the apple pencil pro. Also new ipadpro m4

According to Apple, the older pencils will not work with the newer models because the charging circuitry and attachment magnets had to be reconfigured because the FaceTime camera (and FaceID on the Pro) was moved from the short side (top in portrait mode) to the long side (top in landscape mode.

I do not understand why apple would put out a software that would not work with their own accessory devices. I have a apple pencil 2 with an ipad 12.9 pro. I have been using my apple pencil with my ipad with NO problems since I purchased the ipad. I upgraded my ios software and now my pencil does not work. It will connect and charge, but with not interact with the ipad. They really need to fix this problem with the software.

Besides, I shouldn't have to bear the burden of buying a new $100 Apple Pencil just because the software devs didn't do enough bug tests to catch something as catastrophic as an issue making the software being completely incompatible with one of their best selling accessories.

Same problem here. iPad 12,9 Pro 3rd gen, Apple Pencil 2nd gen, iOS 17.0.3. I had high hopes the new update would fix this. Reconnecting the pencil works only temporary, just as a reboot of the iPad. I had no problems with my pencil before 17.0.2.

I just had this issue. I restarted my iPad Air, backed up, reset, and erased everything, but nothing happened. An Apple Support person told me to remove all my connected Bluetooth devices on the iPad and turn off all the Bluetooth devices that are open nearby. Apparently, that was the main issue. My Apple Pencil connected right away when I did all those steps, then I just paired everything back and turned on other devices. My pencil is working fine now just like before. I'm so thankful for that Support person, Likith. :)

The problem was with the tip of the Apple Pencil. I unscrewed the tip and screwed it back on, and now the pencil works. It was bad connections between the tip and the pencil in my case.

They then advised me to wipe my iPad and start again setting it up as a new iPad but with the latest iOS 17 but this still did not solve the issue - this is clearly an Apple software issue. I will try again with Apple over their telephone support to see if anything can/ will be done.

Double tapping a body with an Apple Pencil is not functioning well. Most often it fails. It makes the drawing process inefficient. Is this a known problem again as it was in the fall of 2023? Based on past topic posts and experience, this is not the first or second time.

Thanks for responding. Besides hoping for a fix, I hope my suggestion for adding functionality via a drop down menu describes in my post gets consideration. It would stream line the drawing process. It is an idea that I have had for quite awhile.

I have been using Shapr3D for a few years now. I decided I should make some suggestions on some other ideas. I used to design software and ideas come to me. I thought that I should also present this double tap selection bug, as well. What is the best way to keep tabs on what the Shapr3D folks are doing to address it?

I find Shapr3D stable. I like how it has grown, too. But, growing pains happen. It appears the double tap selection was a problem last year and another time before. I remember it last year. For a while, I wondered if my drawing had gotten corrupted somehow.

Yes, the project is a house drawing with lots of objects. Still, I expect Shapr3D to hold up. I tested the double tap on a much smaller drawing. It worked as it should. So yes, a larger project drawing makes it fail.

Here again is a solution and a workflow efficiency option. I think a pencil gesture to open a drop down menu with a select object option would work well. It could also have a hide, go to folder, hide object or hide folder option and even an unhide all option. Folders are great for grouping things. Tracking down folders can take time, especially a sub folder.
