Hi all,

We are introducing Google Classroom to our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes.

We have 16 iPad 2s running iOS 9.3.5 (the limit of their upgrades) and six iPad Airs with up-to-date iOS.

On the iPad Airs we use the Google Classroom app and the associated Google Drive office apps.

However, on the iPad 2s we have to use the Safari browser to access Google Classroom which works well (Google Chrome is not compatible with the devices). The issues arise if a task is set that requires Google Docs.

The Google Docs app is not compatible with the iPad so we try to use docs.google.com in Safari.  The browser keeps pushing us to download the app and won't let us edit the doc in Safari.

Does anyone have a workaround?

Thanks and regards

Paul

These iPad 2s were sold from 2011 to 2014 so nearly 7 years old minimum and all also 2 years beyond Apple's five year guarantee of OS support for devices sold.

I know this is often the case (forced to use old equipment) especially now, but to me it sounds like a case of fundraise for more recent devices. Unless another CESI member has a workaround?

Thanks Imogen,

I have a feeling that is going to be the answer.  We will have to tailor school based Google Classroom assignments to suit.

Forms works well which is great, as does the camera so they are two working options, plus the basic Q&A within the app itself.

We would just love to be able to do some work editing and/or creating documents within the G-Suite environment.

Regards

Paul
