Google Educ Apps: Shared Contacts Query

My query is directed at those who have implemented Google Educ Apps in their school. Specifically, I am considering enabling Contact Sharing as described below and am wondering if others have enabled it in their school and, if so, have you come across any issues - technical or AUP related - that they'd be willing to share.
"When you enable contact sharing, all users created in the domain are shared contacts. The shared contact list is similar to what is commonly referred to as a global address list. You can use these contacts in the following ways:
- When you start to type letters into the To, Cc or Bcc field, contacts' email addresses will auto-complete. Domain contacts will appear below users' 'All Contacts and My Contacts' lists.
- When you search for contacts from the Contacts Service, all contacts -- including shared contacts -- will be returned in the search results.
- When you click the To, Cc or Bcc fields, as you type, all contacts -- including shared contacts -- will appear."

I've found that it takes about 24hours for new contacts/users to appear in Contact Sharing, but otherwise no technical issues.
Regarding AUP, we treat all contact details within Google Apps as "work contact details" as opposed to "personal contact details" and so we have no problem with this info being shared.
It would be useful though if Contact Sharing could be connected to Organisational Units - allowing us to only share staff contacts with staff, juniors with juniors etc. It becomes a problem when you have hundreds of users and the dropdown lists contain numerous users with the same first name!
In general tho, Contact Sharing is very useful.

We've implemented contact sharing in St Aidan's Community School, as mentioned by someone else the list doesn't populate immediately - I generally tell staff that you may need to add the full address the first time you use it but afterwards it will appear as you type.
One particularly useful feature of contact sharing is when it's combined with groups. I've set up groups for each of the classes in St Aidan's, so if a teacher sets homework by email she can then send it to the entire class by specifying the class group email address. This works well in Aidan's since class names are saint names and are retained by that class until they finish school.

very useful with Transition Year and for staff to staff communication.
Each teacher has a user name of the form "m.murphy@..." and I did not
use the first name of the teachers when importing, just the initial.
It is also possible to change the settings on individual accounts so
that they do not show up in Contact Sharing. From the dashboard go to
the individual account and set it.
RE: groups I use Excel to generate student user names from the class
lists, it is then quite easy to save CSV files. Each teacher uses
these to import to her contacts and create groups. For options it is
up to each teacher to create a class group but with contact sharing on
it is easy.
