Kaizena is a very useful tool for leaving voice feedback on Google
Classroom assignments (or any Doc or Slide)
Must be enabled/installed by the domain administrator but then very simple
and quick alternative to typing lengthy comments.
Free version limited to 30seconds per comment but you can add multiple
comments to a piece of work.

This is brilliant! Thank you! Will install this for my staff. We've been
looking for something like this for ages

Guys also take a look at Read&Write for Google Chrome:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/readwrite-for-google-chro/inoeonmfapjbbkmdafoankkfajkcphgd?hl=en-GB

Voice Notes are recorded into Google Docs and added as comment in the doc
(student doesn't need to install the add on like Kaizena to see and hear
them)
Also works on iPad/iPhone (comment links to a WAV of your recording and
opens natively in Google Drive)
Also, free for teachers.

Cheers,
Steve

Thank you very much Laurence for your detailed reply. This is exactly the
way I'm proceeding with the Open Book Exam approach and it is now the
directive given.
Thanks for the examples: as it happens my subject are Maths and Programming
which are well suited to Online assessment.

I'd love to know people's thoughts on this as well, we are trying to come
up with a standard equipment plan that we can use to update equipment as it
fails.

Our old system involves long throw projector, Airserver, PC and a DVD
player which is also used as an audio amp. Honestly, Airserver isn't
working brilliantly for us. It works but is constantly nagging for updates
and needs an additional router with additional passwords.

We have recently installed some short throw projectors, looking very good
so far. Simpler wiring, better image. I can't see the need for IWB's.
DVD players were a constant hassle, we're moving to powered speakers
mounted on the wall. Working out very well but there's scope to optimise
the exact brand we're using.
If anyone has got a nice docking system for laptops that would be
interesting to see.

Once this is all over, I'd be very interested to visit a school that is
using large screen TV's and see how that's going. Screen brightness is
critical, there are some of our rooms with south facing windows where the
older projectors are effectively useless for large parts of the day.

Hi Clare

Considerations include

Projector or large screen are the options really.

- Room brightness is a huge factor as is layout field of view - shallow
but wide (2 rows of 10 desks) or deep (4 rows of 5 desks).
- wired connectivity should be HDMI as it deals with audio and video.
- audio amplification - projector and screen should have sufficient
built-in capability
- projector should have built-in wireless connection - cross-platform
support (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, ChromeOS, etc)
- Big screens are heavy and require adequate grounds in wall to support
bracket and screen - don't over look this!

If you have an existing mobile projector then use it to model different
screen sizes on the projection surface to see what will work - consider
both YouTube content (ie video) and presentation material
(Powerpoint/Slides).

Epson have some good modelling/planning tools in the support section of
their website.

Budget?! A 55" screen is going to start around €700-800 - this is
considerably cheaper than an ultra-short throw projector.

Warranty?
MTBF?
Service?

Sorry Aengus, this went to my clutter folder!

No you don’t need to assign class, once you’ve got your skeleton users you can export the file and it will generate passwords for you automatically. When the students go to login they will be promoted to put in their first and last name (this is for the certificate). If the usergrade is left a ‘0’ the students can then choose the level based on their age.

Kind regards and sorry for delay!

Thanks Gillian,

In relation to creating student accounts, I've created skeleton usernames, what is the password associated with each one?

Do I have to assign class and usr grade or can they select the level based on their age?

Hi All,

Tech Week (https://www.techweek.ie/) is taking place next week and I’d like to draw your attention to our Tech Week Computational Thinking Challenge (https://bebraschallenge.techweek.ie/), which will be going live tomorrow for the week. it’s based on the Bebras tasks but is shorter than the usual Bebras challenge being 25 mins instead of the usual 40mins. It is an online interactive challenge for students from 8 years upwards, and its free!

It’s a useful activity that students can complete at home and when completed you can export Tech Week certificates for your students with their score and email them onto the students. It’s a great warm up for the Bebras Challenge later in the year (2nd-13th November 2020).

This would be very useful. I can't see a super simple solution but here's
the next best thing.
- I use google sheets to plan my work, this can also be published to the
web easily so students have a view only option through a website.
- Give each teacher a similar sheet (in my world of wonderful hope this
makes their life easier). You just copy a blank one and adjust the dates,
quite easy.
- Create a master sheet that is linked to each of the individual teacher
sheets so the cells automatically update using IMPORTRANGE or similar. Not
simple but a once-off.

If (yes a big if) teachers did put homework into their sheets, then the
master sheet gives a complete overview for a student.
