Dear Teachers,
Copies of Computational Thinking Workbook for
3rd-6th class are available to order!
The workbook can be used as a 10 lesson introduction
to computational thinking for primary school pupils from 3rd
through 6th class, or it can serve as material for an
after-school science club activity.
It consists of 10 carefully selected computational thinking
tasks from the international Bebras Challenge, plus an
associated extra work page for each task.
We have a batch of 4000 professionally printed copies to
post to schools in Ireland. If you are interested to get them for
your school, please fill in the order form at:
https://forms.office.com/r/YEYb8BvTv5 .
The books will be posted on a first-come-first-served basis. The
workbooks are free, but we would greatly appreciate the teacher
giving us feedback after using them in the classroom.
We would also appreciate if one teacher can collate all orders
from each school because it is faster and cheaper to post them in
bigger batches.
Although the workbook is aimed at primary schools, we
have got feedback from secondary school teachers that some of the
lessons are also suitable for secondary school level.
To decide if the lessons would work for your students, please have
a look of the PDF copy of the workbook, which can be downloaded
from our website:
https://pact.cs.nuim.ie/pages/workbooks.html.
An accompanying Teacher Notes book has lesson
plans, solutions, and suggestions for extension activities. It can
be downloaded from the same website.
Kind regards,
Taina Lehtimaki & PACT team

PACT team - Programming, Algorithms, Computational
Thinking, Maynooth University, Department of Computer Science
The PACT team at Maynooth University Department of
Computer Science develops computer science resources and supports
for teachers at both primary and secondary school level. All our
workshops, school visits and materials are free of charge and
teachers do not need any prior knowledge of computer science to
attend our teacher CPD workshops. Our “unplugged” teaching
materials are adapted from our involvement with the International
Bebras CT Challenge, through the Irish Computer Society’s National
Bebras Challenge. Our teacher training and school visit programme
is funded by Science Foundation Ireland and Maynooth University.
