Hi all,
I removed the above worm from a Dell Vostro which uses Windows 7 today. I also uninstalled GoToAssist & GoToOpener which appeared on the desktop after a 'screaming' dialogue box told a member of staff to call a number yesterday & looked for€200 to buy security . Everything seemed fine for a few minutes but the the computer died.

A Microsoft Security Essentials scan said that  worm:Win32/Vermis.genlink was on the computer and needed to be removed. and liked the worm to files that were on a USB stick that had been in use at the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance,
Yvonne

Have you quarantined/ deleted the virus ?? If so then your almost there.
If you're asked about what to do with the USB key then suggest formation it.

Does that help any?

Hi Yvonne

If you haven't already do so, Disconnect your computer from the school network do not call the number on your screen it is a scam
If your computer is infected by  worm:Win32/Vermis then you will need something like SpyHunter to completely remove it.

On a clean computer download SpyHunter copy it to a clean flash drive and install it on your infected computer

Buy the full version it costs about 29 euros for 6 months per computer
Microsoft Security Essentials is not good enough to protect your computer from Malware/Ransomware or any serious virus infections

There are free versions of decent malware detector and removal software like Total Security 360 but you really need a plan to protect your computers and network from these attacks, talk to your IT provider or you can email me directly

Best of luck

Regards

Val

Val has a very good point, for anyone reading this, try and scan your PC Offline rather than online, and yes MS Essentials is not good enough.
We use Eset on our PCs but I Also like spy-hunter
