Dear CESI community, 

Bringing to your attention the STEM teacher education bursary from the Department of Education, along with a reminder about the BA Education (Computer Science and Maths) concurrent initial teacher education programme (GY133) some of your Leaving Cert students may be interested in!

Subject: Please inform students on undergraduate STEM teacher education programmes of the launch of the STEM bursary.

The STEM Bursary aims to encourage more students to train as teachers in STEM subjects to help increase the number of STEM teachers available to post-primary schools.  

 

The bursary, €2,000 per year, is available to students registered in an eligible undergraduate Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme who are. 

·         starting the first of their final two years in the 2025/26 academic year. 

·         In future years, students in either of the final two years will be able to apply. 

·         If you are repeating a year, you are not eligible for the bursary. 

 

To qualify, a student must be registered on a course to teach at least one of the following subjects: 

·         Maths 

·         Applied Maths 

·         Physics 

·         Chemistry 

·         Biology 

·         Engineering 

·         Computer Science

The deadline for receipt of applications for the 2025/26 academic year is Friday, 27 February 2026.
