What are folks thoughts on turning off (or drastically reducing) 2.4GHz in classrooms?

Hi Gregory,

My current settings are as follows for 2.4GHz, width of 20MHz and low transmitting power. Been running them for the last few months at this with no issues. Going to start limiting it in certain areas that have high density of APs in general.

50% of those 2.4GHz radios should be off to reduce CCI/CCC across your usable channels of 1,6,11, unless you *did not* design for 5/6GHz... and are barely hitting coverage. Most networks will perform better with less 2.4GHz radios, as devices migrate to better SNR on closer and cleaner 5GHz+ radios/channels which is what you want. This is of course if your population of clients support dual or tri-band... as opposed to just IoT devices... and assuming your APs are actually new in the last 15 years i.e. dual band.

Essentially though, if you didn't design the RF airspace and can't measure it, you're just playing whack a mole...  if you don't understand how your clients choose between 2.4GHz and 5GHz, whack a mole, if you don't understand primary and secondary coverage *and* capacity, whack a mole!

2.4Ghz these days, is just a light legacy offering for cheap IoT device chipsets and super old clients... it's a mess, and susceptible to so many types of interference, it's not funny.

Generally, 2.4GHz radios should be 3-5dB below your 5GHz radios power....

Here's probably one of the best aggregations of references and tools for your daily needs https://wlanprofessionals.com/wlanprostoolbox/ + https://toolbox.wlanpros.com/app/
