I've been looking for a way to store/transport micro:bits for a while and ended up making one instead. I used a component box from Lidl , a €5 yoga mat from "All Seasons" and some super glue.  Pretty simple to put together.

Pictures here https://photos.app.goo.gl/WiuFo1sjxqxFHE326 - The one I did will hold 64 and a bunch of USB cables. I don't have that many micro:bits so not all slots are filled in the pictures. Next time I'd go for a smaller box.

I'll have it with me at #cesicon if you want a look.

Impressive idea John! Thanks for sharing.
Have just ordered a class set of Micro:Bits after being really inspired by our Microsoft DreamSpace visit. Had been wondering how best to store them and the accessories so your post is perfect timing!!

Just wondering if anyone had ordered protective covers for the individual micro:bits and if they could recommend where I could get them?

Thanks,

Fiona

I bought a couple from kitronik. They were nice but pricey and I didn't buy any more. I have found the micro:bit to be very resilient.

I have only had one fail on me and that was my fault when I was trying something out and carelessly had 3 different power sources linked to it including a 12v battery pack. Plenty of heat and the sweet smell of circuits burning out gave me the clue something was up :-)

If you have a handy Fab Lab or Makerspace with a laser cutter nearby - design your own with Boxes.py - It’s a great resource for bespoke boxes and trays.

You can pretty much find any type of box you want on there - https://www.festi.info/boxes.py/

And if you want to dig deeper the code is open source.

Cheers

We used one of these guys in one of our schools - click here.  They come in different sizes and can be used for stroring/ transporting anything. Simply cut the foam out according to the size of what it is your storing; Microbits, Spheros etc.

Warm regards,

Still in use -

I'm looking at some Foxbits to try out next year.
https://www.keyestudio.com/products/keyestudio-foxbit-stem-education-esp32-development-board-wireless-communication-with-type-c-for-arduino-and-python

Similar to the micro:bit but with a different chip and has a few additional features like built-in wifi and USB-C. I understand they work with Makecode in much the same way as the micro:bit but I'll be using them with microblocks https://microblocks.fun/ and with Python for the LC Computer Science folk
