Hi John,
I’d also like to highlight that Oide TiE have developed a number of new guidance documents and supports specifically for schools.
The overall purpose of cybersecurity for schools is to protect the school’s digital infrastructure and data so that the range of school data being used across the school is not lost, stolen, or compromised.
Having a cybersecurity policy in place enables schools to review their situation across relevant areas, ranging from who has access to critical data, to network security, to backups, incident response, and cybersecurity awareness training. A well implemented school cybersecurity policy ensures each critical area is addressed consistently. By addressing areas such as ‘how to respond to an incident’, software updates, protection of computing devices, and training, all within one policy, schools can better prepare, manage, and recover from cyber incidents or a data breach. The policy clarifies the different roles & responsibilities. This type of clarity is vital during ‘incidents’, so that all parties are aware of their role and responsibilities.
The most important new document is a ‘School Cybersecurity Policy Template’ document which schools can use, along with the other resources, FAQ’ etc, to develop their own school cybersecurity policy in the following areas.
