Hi Guys,

Interesting one for the list! Does anyone know anything about the C2K network in Northern Ireland? I've been asked by a Neverware engineer who is having trouble getting 'CloudReady' (their OS) to talk to the network in a school that is deploying CloudReady on their old computers.

CloudReady is basically a version of Chrome OS that turns old PCs and laptops into Chromebooks.

Their engineer is asking:
I understand that C2K is some sort of privately operated regional-level network that most schools in Northern Ireland connect to.  Do you know anyone who might be able to help me understand how C2K works, and what special steps need to be taken to get machines happily authenticated through whatever proxy/filtering setup they use?

If anyone might be able to help him let me know and I can refer you on to Peter in Neverware.

Thanks,
Steven

I cannot comment on the C2K setup but I had no problem rolling out Neverware on the HeaNet network (on level 6 filtering).

I have worked in a C2K maintained school in Armagh before. They are an organisation who have a contract with the education board in the North. Then the service is offered to any schools, and if a school wish to signup to C2K they pay a certain fee depending on how many machines they have in place.

C2K provide the hardware and the network for the school. They have local technicians in each region who will have a trouble shooting system where they will sort any issues remotely. If its a bigger issue and they need to call out they were normally there within 2 hours from my experience.

Some of the bigger secondary schools will choose to have their own server and networks and have an experienced technician in place, as in some cases it gives them more flexibility and may save money doing it that way as they are not paying anything to C2K.

I hope that helps.

Hi Steven,

If you ask the school to book a ticket with C2K and escalate the query, they will come back and advise the IT technician in the school.

Kind regards,
