I think I may have asked this before but can't remember - so apologies in advance if so.

I have the Promethean whiteboard which came with a Sanyo PRO xtrax projector and it goes dim after a few minutes. I'm pretty sure it's not a setting and before I contact Promethean I was wondering if others have noticed this problem or if it's just me. The bulb is only about a year old.

Cheers,

Noel

Noel,
I have also noticed quite a few Promethean systems where the picture has
gone very "dull" or pink in places.

Be absolutely sure the lamp is the cure for it before purchasing a new one
as it does not appear to have sorted the problem in some of the sites that I
witnessed the problem in.

The lamps are relatively expensive and you can only really know if it is the
cure by replacing it.

If it is not the cause of your problem you will end up with an expensive
lamp and faulty projector that MAY not be worth fixing.

Sorry for the bad news.

Hi Noel,

If the whiteboard is showing magenta (purply pink) and green shadowing, the projector needs cleaning. This happened my Promethean Activboard and I was told that dust inside the projector was the cause, even though I had been cleaning the filters fortnightly. I was advised to get the projector professionally cleaned. I left the school at that stage so don't know the outcome.
I had to replace the bulb after 18 months and the board had been growing dimmer for several months prior to that.

In spite of all that I'd have it back any day in place of my current Smart Board!!
BTW, does anyone know what the problem is if I keep getting the message 'Close Ink Layer' when I am using Activprimary3 software on my Smart Board. It won't let me perform actions without first getting rid of any writing on the top layer. I asked the Smart rep at IPPN conference but got no joy.

Hi Agnes,

The Ink Layer is a SMART Board feature which allows you to write in ink over other applications. This occurs automatically when you lift a pen out of the tray when you’re not using SMART Notebook. To stop this, you need to first close SMART Board Tools. You can do this by finding the icon for SMART Board Tools (blue square with white circle) near the clock on the right hand side of your taskbar, and right-clicking on the icon, and select Exit. To prevent this application from starting up automatically, you would need to remove it from the Startup folder.
