Hello,

Is there a way plotting the Eircodes or locations of students in a map to compare how many students are in a given pobal map area or can I make a boundary map on Google maps.

Some of the pobal maps were used to decide deis status of schools and I wish to plot student locations in a map.

If someone has any ideas can you please share them.

Kind regards
Declan

Yes, you can plot Eircodes or locations of students on a map to compare how many students are in a given Pobal map area, and you can also create boundary maps on Google Maps. Here’s a general guide on how to accomplish both:

Plotting Eircodes or Locations on a Map

      1.    Collect Data: Ensure you have a list of the Eircodes or addresses of your students.
      2.    Use Google Sheets:
      •     Input your data into a Google Sheet with a clear structure, such as one column for Eircodes or addresses.
      •     Use the “Geocode” function of Google Sheets to convert addresses to latitude and longitude coordinates if necessary. Note: This may require using a custom script or add-on like “Geocode by Awesome Table.”
      3.    Import to Google Maps:
      •     Go to Google My Maps: https://www.google.com/mymaps
      •     Create a new map and use the “Import” feature to select your Google Sheet.
      •     Google My Maps will plot the locations based on the latitude and longitude or the Eircodes/addresses directly.

Creating Boundary Maps on Google Maps

To visualize specific areas, such as Pobal map areas, you can draw boundaries on Google Maps using the following steps:

      1.    Open Google My Maps and either create a new map or use the one you’ve started for plotting locations.
      2.    Draw Boundaries:
      •     Select the “Draw a line” tool, then choose “Add line or shape.”
      •     Click on the map to start drawing your boundary. Continue clicking around the perimeter of the area you wish to define.
      •     Complete the shape by connecting the end point to the starting point.
      3.    Customize and Label:
      •     Once your area is defined, you can name it and provide a description.
      •     Customize the color of the boundary and the fill for easy identification.

This method allows you to visually compare the distribution of your students within specific Pobal map areas. It can be particularly useful for analyzing the geographical spread of students and understanding how it correlates with DEIS status or other factors relevant to your administrative and educational planning.

Remember to respect privacy and data protection regulations when handling and plotting student addresses or any personal information.
