Hi all,
We have an exciting new project to share with you all today and we hope you will be excited enough to get involved in it!
As we all know there are a huge number of resources available online for teachers. Many of these resources however are mapped to the American Common Core. They talk about the American standards. This can make it hard for Irish teachers to quickly and easily figure out where in the Irish context the particular resource can fit.
Camara Ireland and Edcite have identified the need to create a resource for the Irish formal education system (mainstream primary and secondary schools) that maps the United States 'Common Core' curriculum standards to the Irish curriculum standards.
This project will unlock a large amount of resources for use by Irish teachers, that are currently difficult to use in lesson plans as they are not mapped to the Irish curricular standards. This will open up a lot of extra curricular materials for use in the Irish classroom.
This is where you all come in. This task is no small undertaking. To make the project work successfully we need a large number of voluntary contributions. What we have done is created an open source project. We have made a series of documents, and licensed them under creative commons open source licensing. What we need now are teachers to contribute to the completion of these documents.
We have created a site as a portal to house these documents that you can find --->HERE<------. It hosts the documents, and more importantly how to go about filling them in. There is information on the Common Core for any who may not be familiar with it.
You will find full directions on how to fill in the documents and how the mapping works on the site also.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask us.
Kind regards,
Nicole & Julia
On behalf of Camara Ireland and Edcite
