Hi all,

We have a lot of teachers who use their own devices for taking photos in school. Does the The GDPR and the law enforcement Directive mean we shouldn’t do this or should there be a clear directive to teachers what to do with these photos/videos. I usually gather all the photos/videos twice a year from teachers and store them on a harddrive and on Gsuite (teachers only have access to this). We have thousands of photos since 2003.

Would be really interested to hear what others are doing.

Thanks,

Emma

Hello,

Yes, that’s exactly what it means. The problem with personal devices is that they are often synced to other devices like iPads or PCs which could be accessible by other users.

We’re getting a school app next year that allows teachers to use their phones but upload and store photos / video clips instantly to the cloud safely and securely in accordance with GDPR regulations. It also allows payment of fees, sends communication to parents, links with Vsware and social media etc.

Teachers also have teacher tablets for recording CBAs which they either delete or upload to their Google Drive if keeping as a sample of student work for next year.

It’s work in progress. Would be interested to hear what other schools do.

Kind regards,

Eileen

Hi Emma,

We're adjusting all our permission slips from September to include a section with a wording such as:

I give permission for photos to be taken of my child(ren) and my child(ren)'s work by staff members during school activities for the following reasons:

- assessment (including in SeeSaw and similar apps)
- home/school communication  (including in SeeSaw and similar apps)
- use on school noticeboards
- use on digital media showcasing school work including school website, school twitter account and any other digital media deemed suitable by the school.
- archival and celebration purposes (e.g. for use in school anniversary, school research and graduation ceremonies).

All staff devices should now have a password/secure access including smart phones, tablets, laptops, PCs

Hope all is well with you.

Regards

Paul

Hi Eileen,

I'm curious as to what app you're looking into for your school?

Sean
