The CESI list is fantastic and I can see mailing lists have their advantages. It can be hard to follow at times and a lot of good content is lost to the ages. I feel the society would be well served with a fully fledged forum (vbullitin, phpbb or the like). There are numerous useful features that I think would be very useful.

Just putting it out there what do fellow Cesiers think? Think http:www.boards.ie for educators.

A board format would work better as there is a huge amount of information that has already been shared among the group. Having a search by topic option would make navigation easier and it would be easier to find archived topics that may be relevant to newer members

I must admit I prefer the mailing list option. While I can see all the advantages of the forum, the main reason I'm happier with the mailing list is it comes to something I already use everyday, my email. I'm on a few mailing lists and, yes, every morning my email is clogged up with 50+ emails but I don't mind. If there's something that doesn't interest me, I'm happy to press the delete button.  I guess I really don't want to have to open another new tab on my browser everyday!

I am a bit confused. This is a Google group:
https://groups.google.com/group/cesi-list/topics
You can search (not advanced search) for old topics, and nothing gets
lost. It should even be indexed by Google itself, so relevant topics
could appear on generic searches through the engine.

It could also be upgraded to the new types of forums that Google now
provide, which allow for voting, categories, tags, posting from the
web and all that. And it would give the option to people such as Simon
and myself to keep using it through our mail, while others can use the
web interface if they like it better.

cheers,
José

I prefer the mailing list - perfect for me. I have the settings on "one a day" - with little time effort, I can see what's being discussed and go onto the Groups site (which looks much like a forum) whenever I want to. So for me: Please leave as is!

Hi All,
I like the mailing list, however maybe it is time for a change and try out the forum,
it could be a great learning curve for us all,

Few issues with a forum!
Firstly the cost of setting it up!
Moderation
And for most of us another place to log in is a nightmare and just wouldn't happen! The cesi-digest Is a great way to cut down the emails and if you use it on the website it works brilliantly as a google list/doc

Just my 2 cents worth!  I'm all for keeping the cesi list as it is!

Hi Hetty,

The mailing list can be accessed as a public forum.
So, we already have one. It's just how you access it.
Unless I have a different understanding of a 'forum' to all of ye?

Regards,

Stephen

Are we tripping over terminology?? Alot of people consume CESI list in their phones, If you didn't and you had to go on line (to email account/google groups) to access the list I can see why a forum is needed, I kinda like things the way they are.

That's what I was getting at, I think the forum, email list, email digest are the same thing, it's just how you consume it.

> consume CESI list in their phones, If you didn't and you had to go on line (to email account/google groups) to access the list I can see why a forum is

Can I see your phone? I access CESI on my phone but I still need to go online to get it! :-)

> needed, I kinda like things the way they are.

Me too.

I'd be in favour of a Google+ page for members, but then there'll be an interminable argument for Facebook etc.

Regards,

Stephen
