Hi all,

I was hoping to ask for a recommendation for a printer in a school office setting.

The criteria we are looking at is as follows:

1) Will be placed on a desk next to a laptop station so needs to be a small box shape/size
2) It will be used occasionally for "heavy" printing
3) Needs to be somewhat "future-proofed" as we will not have the budget to replace it every few years
4) Ink cartridges (black/ colour) need to be readily sourced/ budget options available
5) Needs to be reliable (won't jam to often - I am laughing as I write this!) and "plug in and go"
6) Budget of €200 - €300

Basically we are looking for a good printer on a budget!

Apologies if this is a tough ask but even a shortlist of options from this mail list would be helpful

Thanks,

Stephen

Stephen

As somebody in the trade for over 40 years (not looking for business by the way) my advice to you is to look at the Total Cost of Ownership over 7 years – and not the original cost of the printer.

You need to look at

Mono versus colour printing cost

Amount of annual printing you suspect to do – then multiply that by 2 as people always underestimate.

A3 or A4 page size – I suspect A4 would suffice

Number of users

Do you want pause and override feature (for emergency printing)

Do you want individual ID’s (to allocate printing costs)

Do you want inkjet or laser?

Cost and yield of cartridges

Maintenance cost or type and duration of warranty

I would think you  need to spend more than €200 - €300 for the correct fit of printer.

Look at Epson and Brother models.

Kindest regards
