The mailing list has grown to 435 members and I am going to take the opportunity to remind all of the guidelines for the group. No changes from when I sent this before but we have a lot of new folk so here it is again.

If you have any queries regarding the list please email them to me off-list at jheg...@cesi.ie

If you find you are getting too much email then you can change your settings so that emails are grouped together and you only receive one a day. You can do that here
http://groups.google.com/group/cesi-list/subscribe?hl=en-GB or contact me off-list and I will do it for you.
  • Please make sure you are replying to the subject. If you are introducing a new subject then start a new email thread. Having too much clumped together will make the web archive confusing to anyone joining the list.
  • Members of the list who are employed by commercial organisations/companies should avoid using the list to promote their products and services. Where they are providing useful information they should indicate clearly that they have a vested interest.
  • Keep your points brief and to the point. If you have a lot to say then post a blog article somewhere and send a link to the article to the list.
  • Avoid engaging in "flame wars" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_war  they sap energy and do not serve the purpose of the list.
  • Avoid making personal comments, again they do not serve the purpose of the list.

If you have the opportunity, through a blog, website, teachers meeting, a course you are attending, another mailing list etc. please take the time to write www.cesi.ie and direct people to the list. The more folk on the list the more useful it will be to all of us.

Thanks

Hi Folks,

The CESI list has grown quite a bit in recent weeks with the activity round the conference. we now have 516 members and I am going to take the opportunity to remind all of the guidelines for the group. No significant changes from when I sent this before but we have a lot of new folk so here it is again.

The purpose of the list as stated in the web archive of the list :
The purpose of this mailing list is to facilitate discussion of the ICT issues you face in your school. Together we can support each other by providing advice and information from our own experiences. Since launched in April 2008, the CESI Mailing List has become a popular and effective means for teachers in Ireland to support each other on ways to integrate ICT in teaching & learning.

If you have any queries regarding the list please email them to me off-list at jheg...@cesi.ie

Where you are providing useful information you should indicate clearly where you have a vested interest. We welcome your expertise but please don't use the list to try and promote your business in any way.

    Hi John,
Great to see the list is ever-increasing!
Just wondering if 570 is the no. of people actually on the list, or if it is the no. of people who subscribed (and may have since unsubscribed)?

The total was 568 when I sent the message - 3 more have joined since then so 571 is the total currently subscribed. There is a small number subscribed with 2 addresses.

Another stat is that 3277 messages have been posted since the list started in April 2008.

Very few people unsubscribe. That being said if anyone is having difficulty unsubscribing or changing the settings on how often they receive messages drop me a line at jheg...@cesi.ie and I'll sort it out.

Yesterday I got a call from Trina, the ICT co-ordinator at my local national school who saw my name here, Googled me and realised I was a local. She was asking about laptop trolleys as the school is thinking of getting one. I was able to send her a summary of all the recent great advice from the ALT-C mailing list. CESI-list is absolutely great, and for anyone with more than a passing interest in learning technology I would also recommend membership of the Irish Learning Technology Association ILTA http://www.ilta.ie , and of the Association for Learning Technology in the UK http://www.alt.ac.uk .

… and get on facebook and twitter if you haven’t already. If you’re worried about teacher confidentiality or privacy issues, create an alter ego for online purposes.

Best wishes and thanks to John for maintaining the list.
