Has anyone done a VMWare to Proxmox migration?

Hi Greg,

I haven’t - but I like it!

I know Proxmox has a good community and I know a handful of serious coders who use it daily for a lot of usage cases.

Hosting machines, DNS filtering, Docker, etc.

I’d be very interested to see how you get on - or to give a hand if I can.

Many thanks!

Chris

I’ve had Proxmox up on some old HP big iron, A couple of ProLiant servers, but I’m in the process of reinstalling at the moment. I would second the notion that it seems to have a good support community, and a lot of helpful resources out there.

Whats the reason(s) of doing it ?
I've heard that HyperV is friendly, as well.

I have 2 hosts currently locked into ESXi 7 - not prepared to pay the huge fees to VMWare going forward to upgrade. We have pretty modest requirements - 4/5 virtual Windows servers.

Just curious about the migration process - and how seamless and reliable it is...
