Hi all

Not sure if this has been asked here before but is there any app that allows you to scan a book on to an iPad?

Thanks in advance

Simon

Genius Scan allows you to take a photo of a page etc, save as PDF, and add extra pages to the document. I imagine you could do that for each page in a book, all depends on the file size in the end I suppose.

There are a multitude of scanner apps that allow you to take photos and " render" them as B&W PDF documents.
I use JotNot Pro, and FasterScan HD.
For your task, it is better to choose the app that allows you to take multiple photos, and then afterwards import a multiple of photos in at one time.
FasterScan has a better interface here for this, compared to JotNot, I think.

Please also note, depending on the iPad version, be cogniscent of the camera quality. I have an iPad2, and it isn't great. I get better quality from my iPhone.

At our school, we also use the photocopier, and also a normal 3in1 printer-scanner, to create PDFs of documents and books.

Hi Simon,

CamScanner (not sure if it’s available for iOS, probably is) is superb. Not only does it enable photo from phone to save as PDF or image, and add to it with more pages – it also re-orients the page (removes perspective) and has colour balance and cleanup. There’s a free version and a Pro (which does OCR).

Kindest Regards,

Seaghan Moriarty.

Oh yeah, thanks Seaghan. Forgot to mention OCR.
When you say scanning a book, are you wanting the text, or the image(s) and layout of the book?
Some apps have OCR. For example, JotNot Pro has OCR functionality in conjunction with Google Drive.

JetScanner works as well. Take a batch of pics in the app and it creates a pdf. The files can be large though. Approx 20gb for 50 pages b&w. Upload to Dropbox and share link for students...or airdrop.

If you don't mind sacrificing the book -  modern photocopiers will colour scan front and back through the feeder. I slice off the spine and feed it though the copier and you have a full colour PDF in less than 10 minutes.

If your not looking to do much other than read it after I simply photograph the pages and then put these into book creator.

Thanks for the great replies. Looks like I'll need some volunteers to help!
