Dear CESI community,

       It is with great pleasure that I can forward all of the following amazing projects from ESERO/ESA. In particular, I would like to flag/announce that the CanSat challenge will now accept micro:bit’s as the controller (as well as the Arduino). We have some more to follow on this, including a PD session – but this will be announced later in the month. There are some amazing projects to select from/get involved with!

ESA School Projects

The European Space Agency (ESA) has four exciting school projects for secondary schools this year.   These projects replicate real science projects and give the students opportunities for hands-on learning and a chance to develop their scientific skills and 21st Century Skills.  The ESERO Ireland Office will be hosting virtual Teacher Information evenings for CanSat, Astro Pi and Climate Detectives  projects

Keith

This is great but they need longer notice.

Any way of getting a longer term plan?

Thanks

Tom Farrell.

@Tom

I agree it's hard Tom at the start of the year when Young Scientist deadlines loom and all these things seem to come expecting you're ready when kids barely have their class timetable in their journal.

It's certainly something that had stopped me getting involved initially because September is so busy.

What I didn't realise at the time is that Mission Zero takes only a class or two to complete with students though and the deadline for submission isn't till March 18th 2022.

Mission Space Lab has an earlier submission date of 29 October but you only have to get an idea submitted and you can have five students on a team, it's very achievable. Once your idea is submitted, you don't have to get any code in till the 24 February 2022. We're having a Zoom call two weeks from now at 7pm on Wednesday the 29th of September where teachers can chat about project ideas and there'll be someone from ESA on that call. The idea submission deadline is a full month after that.

-Danny
