Designed especially for second level schools, a gateway site with specially written texts and selected resources, guided creative real-world projects - shows how to petition the EU and facilitates creative digital media outputs for peer sharing.

Designed by a published lecturer in EU affairs, EU4Schools supports active citizenship while taking the complication out of learning about the EU.

 

EU4Schools is a newly developed digital teaching & learning resource about citizenship and understanding the EU. It is designed to make use of the latest ideas in digital learning and ICT in the classroom (eg - CBL, Digital Storytelling, Webquests) and to guide students through the process of making a real life submission to the EU (citizenship) and peer group shared digital projects on topical themes (advocacy). It encourages creativity, engagement and teamwork.

 

Students will communicate with the EU and learn about the structure of the EU and how to make their voice heard on issues they care about. Teachers will introduce their students to effective advocacy, active citizenship and communication skills. EU4Schools is designed to help learners become familiar with the working of the EU and to navigate key EU websites and information sources through creative active projects.
 
With the upcoming Irish Presidency of the EU in 2013 this area is set to become one of great interest to schools, and in particular to Geography and Transition Year teachers. It now looks likely too that the EU Commission will announce 2013 as the Year of the Citizen making this even more relevant.
