Hi all,

I am fairly new to GSuite for Education, but up to now it has been going quit well.
This week however, when using our ipads to access Drive in GSuite, some of the ipads are showing:

Domain "requires you to set a passcode on this device to access this account. Please set passcode and try again."

The children were all able to access GSuite Drive on the same ipads last week. From a quick google I can't see how to fix it. Can anyone here help? If possible, please keep the instructions simple!

Úna.

This is a extra layer of security, once you put a passcode on the iPad the error will go away.
Google is saying “if you or a stranger to that device logs into a none secure device (something with no password) the person has access to what ever drive was logged in last.

Thanks Hassan.
I wonder why it is only happening to some ipads?

Can I set a passcode even if they are being managed by Wriggle? Or can I ask Wriggle to set them all at once?

It’s not a managed update and it’s depends on when google passes them down.
Some managed updates pass straight through the MDM others are stopped by MDM waiting for an admin to let them pass onto iPads . Depends on magic and who set them up.
The only reason I recognise the issue is because I had it for the first time last week.

Passcode requirement is one of the settings that can be applied passively (ie no user intervention/action required) by turning on Simple Device Management via GSuite Admin console.

It will only be triggered the first time user of device accesses something on the GSuite domain concerned

Nice, good catch, I must admit I was being very lazy, it was a good thing so I didn’t look to see what pushed it out

Does that mean I can simply turn off the passcode requirement via GSuite Admin console myself? And that then no one will see that error?

<It will only be triggered the first time user of device accesses something on the GSuite domain concerned>
I'm still wondering why all the ipads could access GSuite Drive 2 weeks ago, while only some of them could access it (i.e. without that error) last week?

If I just disable "mobile management" under "device management", will that mean I won't have to set passcodes?
I'd rather not have the requirement of using passcodes to access GSuite.

Yes if you disable device management then the passcode requirement goes. However you may want to apply MDM selectively to different OUs - eg apply it to all student accounts but not teacher accounts etc...

We have Basic applied for Teacher accounts and Advanced applied for Student accounts

When you set up mobile device management, you can choose between basic and advanced management. You can also customize management across device types. Each level of management gives you a different set of features.

  • Use basic management if you only want to secure devices with a screen lock or passcode and have the ability to remotely wipe corporate accounts from them.
  • Use advanced management* for more control over device policies and passwords, to manage apps on Android and Apple® iOS® devices, and for the ability to wipe all data from devices.
