Theres a certain games-based-learning resonznce to what you're Adrienne, the motivation to improve performznce over repeated attempts...
I also think the (largely) private nature of the learning experience is a factor, what Frank Moran in St Aidan's once referred to as "failing in private but winning publicly" when online maths games were repeatedly attempted.
