Problems Apple Configurator

I'm in the process of configurating our 20 new ipads using Apple Configurator.  My problem is that when I click 'Prepare' and go through the motions (not  enrolling them in an MDM server) I GET THIS MESSAGE: 

Configurator could not perform the requested action because “Annette’s iPad” has already been prepared.

If I, as suggested, I erase and start again I simply come back to the same point. 

I'm a novice at this - the end result I want is that I can connect all the ipads so that I need only download apps onto one.

Suspect you are restoring the iPad after erasing it rather than setting it up as a new iPad? Thus preparation occurs.

What procedure are you following (which Apple document/webpage)?

Hi Annette,

Can you let us know which version of Configurator you are using?

There is Apple Configurator and Apple Configurator 2.

They are very different - and different on how they approach setting up the devices.

For Configurator - it is a 2-step process - You have to Prepare and then Supervise.

For Configurator 2 - you will need to Prepare and then Update - but should make a Profile/Blueprint before doing this.

It has become much more flexible in Configurator 2 (with great added features) - but both require a 2-step process.

Feel free to give me a shout if you need help. Setting up and maintaining this is a great way to go, but can be daunting for the first run.
