I was giving a brief talk on trends in AI at a staff day today and finished up with this funny one - Johnny Cash singing Barbie Girl and the Spice Girls

I understand the general principles involved but has anyone here played with this kind of AI voice model training and can anyone suggest specific application(s) they have used that perhaps some TY students could play with?

Thanks

Very very clever work, and a great jump off point for this discussion, which must be had. Amond ourselves as teachers, and with our students.

It is also worth looking at the YouTube videos to date from @therealmockingbird to whom the AI voice production for this song is attributed - some eerily thought-provoking stuff. No explanation of how they do it but there an invitation to contact them.  [Observation - only male voices to date]

Hi all

I'm going to jump into this thread (after several attempts and thanks to John for fixing my buggy 2009 CESI list registration!) to let you know about a related project about AI in education that some of you may be interested in....

For those who don't know me, I'm a former teacher now researcher at Trinity College Dublin and I am just starting a new research project funded by the British Educational Research Association to explore attitudes to and the use of generative AI in education.  After mid-term we will be looking for teachers from a wide range of backgrounds (with and without experience/knowledge of AI) to participate in focus groups. As the project has only just started, I don't have a formal call for participants yet but when I do I will send an email to the group.  But in the meantime, if this project sounds like it might be of interest, feel free to send me a direct email.

All the best,
Carina
