Hi all!
A couple of years ago I arranged for Dr.James Grime (known to Numberphile fans) to visit our school and talk to students and later the public about the Enigma Coding Machine used in WW2. It was a huge success as he has an original working Enigma machine that he takes along and demonstrates - it's a very engaging talk and he tailored it for the students age groups and then later for local ICT professionals at an evening talk. He also offers talks in Digital Code (very good codebreaking exercises) and runs workshops for smaller groups of students.

I'm inviting Dr.Grime over again sometime between October and December 2018 as there is already a high demand from local schools and the public who wish to see the talks again or for the first time.

I'm just wondering if there are other schools/institutes who might be interested in getting Dr.Grime to visit them also whilst he's in the country? I don't want to say what he can or can't do but I know he's always interested in getting as much from a visit overseas as possible. There are costs involved which we offset with sponsorship from local ICT companies who see his work of interest to their employees.

You can see some of his videos below....

If you think your school/institute might be interested let me know and I can pass your details to Dr.Grime.

Thanks,
Pauric

Hi Pauric,
This sounds very interesting. Is it something more suited to older children at second level or has Dr. Grime worked with primary school age children too?
Just wondering.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Pauric,

Sounds great. I would be interested in maybe facilitating a Dublin / East talk. What about streaming his talk live? Just an idea.

Le meas,
Peadar

Folks,

I've been a bit overwhelmed with email responses to this post - to the point where James has requested that people who are interested in hosting a talk contact him directly on drjame...@gmail.com as it's going to take some coordination to make it all happen.

He has asked that people read up about his Enigma talk below and note that the full day programme is quite expensive.
I have found however that he is negotiable in terms of what exactly you'd like from the event, last time we just requested a lecture to about 100 students which was brilliant, we didn't do the hands on workshop.

Thanks so much again!
Pauric
