Hi all,

I am seeking advice regarding the formal approval of an AUP in a primary school setting.

Thus far,
  1. the AUP has been created,
  2. it was shared with all teachers in the school,
  3. feedback was received from teachers and discussed as part of a Croke Park meeting before incorporating agreed amendments

In particular, I would like to hear how other schools have proceeded from that point forward.

For instance, instead of circulating to the whole parent population, would you advise inviting input from the Parents Association (as a representation of the whole parent population) - e.g., by emailing them to seek their input, through meeting all the members of the Parents Association as a whole and agreeing at that meeting, or a combination of both these approaches? (Advantage: potentially quicker)

Or, maybe instead of involving the P.A., would you advise emailing the AUP to every single family and give them time to provide their feedback before amending the AUP and then sending the finalised AUP to the parents again, and then bringing the finished product to a Board of Management meeting for ratification? (Advantage: Everyone gets the opportunity to contribute to it; Disadvantage: potentially very time-consuming)

Or instead of sending the draft AUP to the whole parent population seeking their thoughts, would you advise  creating a condensed online survey seeking input from the parents and then incorporate that input into the AUP before presenting to the BOM?  (If anyone has a survey they use for this purpose, I would be grateful if you would be willing to share it.)

As the process of reviewing the AUP is a yearly task, I would love to hear from those who have gone through the process and tweaked it to make it as efficient (and pain free) as possible. My main objective is to enumerate the exact steps in sequential order so that it is clear to all stakeholders.

Kind regards
Seán
