Afternoon All,

Annual meetings are a requirement of the Irish chapter of SIGCSE. Obviously, an in-person meeting isn’t an option this year. Equally, there doesn’t seem to be a huge appetite for a lengthy webinar - so we’re going to try something a little different.

WIT will be “hosting” a virtual meeting on Zoom that takes the form of a live podcast. It will a panel discussion around “What 3rd Level Needs To Know About 2nd Level Computer Science.” Now that the Computer Science Leaving Cert subject is established, what should we in the 3rd level sector expect? What type of tools and technologies are being used at 2nd level? What adaptations (if any) do 3rd level programmes need to make?

The panel consists of Brett Becker (UCD), Keith Quille (TU Dublin) and Siobhan Drohan (WIT). I’ll be acting as moderator and “host” of the discussion. Afterwards, it will be published as an episode of The Machine, a computer science education podcast we produce at WIT. (https://spoti.fi/33SqawO, https://apple.co/2FmXiDz or wherever you listen to podcasts)

The session will take place at 4pm (GMT) on Thursday 17th June on Zoom and all are welcome to attend. Towards the end of the discussion, there’ll be a Q&A session where people can pose questions (or comments!) to the panel. I expect the session to last around 1hr in total.

The chat will be pretty informal - but hopefully it’s an informative and engaging way to close out the academic year.

If anyone has questions or comments, please drop me a line.
