Hi All,

A group of us have decided to pool our resources and 'self teach' for a few days in the summer in CORK. We got the idea from 'Bridge 21' (thank you)

We've settled on the week of Monday 28th July in Bandon as a location.
We all bring a wide variety of skills to the table - ranging from experience with iPads and Macs to various types of Coding, Networks, Google etc. We're hoping to teach each other what we each know (if that makes sense).

If it works it might be a good way to meet every so often, going forward throughout the school year.

If any of you are interested in 'joining us' please let me know - the more the merrier!!

Thank you all for your nice comments .... It started with a few of us wanting bridge 21 down south and seems to have grown from that .... Hopefully itll work out well!

I will put up a spreadsheet where anyone interested can register, list their skills and what they would like to learn. So far the skillset looks pretty good so there will be lots on offer!

Thanks Mags for the suggestion, i hadnt thought of it really. I think for now we'll stick to Bandon for the July meeting but we can move around.

Yep something funny about that link. Seems fine on some platforms but something different on others.

I have deleted recent messages from the archive that have that link and would ask that folk make sure to delete the link if replying to the message.

Imogen - you might want to advise the owner of the site that they may have an issue with their site and it may have been contaminated in some way.

Conor thanks CESI members for reporting the hack and is currently in the process of moving all his sites away from Wordpress because of the time burden of constantly having to patch it...

Unusual move. Patching WP is pretty straightforward as long as you do not have a whole load of customisations to the core code.

Mostly, yes – unless something goes wrong while upgrading plugins etc.

WordPress is indeed a wonderful platform, and so easy to use and maintain and expand etc.

 

However, IMHO its popularity is more a reflection of the ‘platform’ and surrounding ecosystem rather than the CMS/Codebase itself

It’s easy to use, easy to maintain and looks great. Thankfully, as I’m in no way sexist, no analogy springs to mind J

I think it partly depends on your Wordpress web hosting. I use edgiest.com who have a great installation that emails me whenever I need to attend to upgrades. If you have to keep checking yourself I can imagine it would be painful.

Just a quick note to say that we haven't forgot about you guys! We are planning for next year and looking at how we can scale to reach various regions across Ireland. I'll keep an eye on the conversation here and maybe we might be able to take part in some of the activities. 

Either way when we have plans for regional workshops I'll post the details on this list.
