Displaying daily messages on a tv

Hi all

I have a large, new tv at my disposal and would like to use it to display daily messages/news/announcements. Picture is not really necessary, just large text. But, picture would be nice.

How do I go about that? I don't know where to start.

As far as I know, it is connected to a pc already and used as a monitor. Is there an app? Software package?

There is software available on-line that will run slides as well as videos while running an rss ticker at the bottom of the screen BUT My advice would be to work with what you have (for now), if your tv is already connected to a PC then you might have the office on it there for you'll have (should have) PowerPoint.
All you'll need is have about maybe between 10-20 slides, of these have slides that are always there, examples of this could be birthday announcements, student announcements (organised by students) and my maybe an on this day.
I THINK you can drop a bit of code in to run a live news ticker on the bottom of the screen, maybe some else would be able to advise you on this.

I've used this before. Not the most user-friendly software but it's very good if you want to run different digital notice boards on different TVs e.g. General Info in student social area, Staff notices in staff room, different notices in sports hall, etc It works away in the background so you can continue to use PC. Actually, I think we had it networked so that I could update it from wherever/whenever which was handy.

Using PowerPoint to get you up and running is a solid idea too and, if you haven't got it, OpenOffice is a reliable alternative.

Open office is a good idea, how about this.......
Google apps presentation program. If you run that from the PC surly you can update it from different locations as long as the PC is connected to the Internet ???? I've never tried this, just a thought as I watch the world over the rim of my coffee cup

Ed, you could try setting up the TV as a separate 'monitor' using the multiple screens option maybe?

Can that display two different data streams... You might need a dual head graphics card
