Hi all,
Our Chromebooks have recently been having this issue when trying to connect to the wifi. whereby 'DHCP Look Up' appears. Has anyone any solutions as to what might be causing this?
Regards,
Naoise.

You need to confirm that your DHCP server is running and providing leases.

Hi Naoise,

Would you have recently added more devices to the school? (Anything - Chromebooks, iPads, Computers, etc.)

"DHCP Look Up" simply means that the server on your network that provides an IP address for devices isn't able to assign your computer an IP address. (PDST Cisco Box)

Some possible causes:

1) You don’t have enough IP address assigned to your school. You will need to contact the PDST to request more.

2) There are other solutions, but most will involve “switch it off, then on again”

3) Try disconnecting the Chromebook from the network and then reconnecting.

4) Restart your router

Note that #2, 3 and 4 may temporarily fix the problem if point #1 is the real issue. However, it’s not a permanent fix.

A final note… if you have lots of little access points around the school - each its own individual box, rather than connected to each other (known as a “mesh” network) - this will certainly cause problems.

Often this is the case unfortunately…

I’d be happy to talk it through with you if you like. My numbers are below.

Many thanks!

Chris

Is the problem localised to all chromebooks or just some?
It sounds like your IP range allocation for your school is at capacity. Have you purchased additional wireless equipment lately?

Thank you everybody, it seems to be the capacity that might be the issue as we have just started using 28 new devices on a system that hasn't been updated in a while.
I'll seek assistance from the PDST.
