Hi all
As EU Code Week is now getting closer, Julie and I, as the Irish CW Ambassadors, would like to share our plans for celebrating Code Week. This year we have 3 activities planned:
1. A Hackathon for TY students
The hackathon will provide students with an opportunity to design, develop and implement a solution to a real-world problem. Participating in the hackathon will help students to develop their creativity, collaboration and problem solving skills. The hackathon is an in-person event and will be held in AWS Think Big Space Tallaght between 09:30 and 16:00 on Monday 10th October. Participants will be presented with a challenge on the day and work in teams to solve it. There will be mentors on call to assist the teams and guest speakers to provide guidance on design and presentation skills. You can apply to bring teams of 3 or 4 here.
2. A Scratch challenge to celebrate the 10th birthday of EU Code Week.
We would love you to work with your students to create Scratch games and animations to wish EU Code Week a happy 10th birthday. You can then add your projects to the Scratch Studio here. The Scratch challenge will open on Monday 3rd October and close on Sunday 23rd October. The Scratch Studio allows us to bring all of the projects together and make it easier to share your projects during Code Week. You can find a short video showing some example projects and explaining how to add to the Scratch Studio here.
If you are taking part in the challenge we would love you to pin the activity to the EU Code Week Map by visiting https://codeweek.eu/events and choosing "Add Activity". If you are sharing this activity on Twitter or Facebook please tag us @CodeWeekIRL and use the hashtags #CodeWeek and #CWis10.
3. The Gigantic Escape Room
Following on from the success of the Escape Rooms shared by Julie in the past, an escape room has been created for use across Europe during Code Week. This escape room will be launched by the central EU Code Week team in Brussels. Check out @CodeWeekIrl on Twitter and Facebook for the link to the Escape Room during Code Week (8th to 23rd October).
Again, if you are taking part in the escape room we would love you to pin the activity to the EU Code Week Map by visiting https://codeweek.eu/events and choosing "Add Activity". If you are sharing this activity on Twitter or Facebook please tag us @CodeWeekIRL and use the hashtag #CodeWeek.
As always if you have any queries please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Regards
Pam & Julie
