Hi,
I would like to create Maths Quizzes in Moddle. What is the best
approach for getting mathematical notation into the Quiz.
I do not have write access to the moodle installation so am not able to
install maths Modules myself. (I have requested our hosting company to
install DragMath)

What have others done to create Math Quizzes either directly in
Moodle or in Hot Potatoes (for example).

Regards,
Steven...

PS: I have tried activating the LaTex filters and using the $$ ... $$
notation but this did not work.
eg $$\sqrt(x+y)$$ just produced \sqrt(x+y)

Stephen,

I have 100's of maths questions in moodle already - what areas are you
looking for?

Kind regards

Mark

Steven...

The LaTeX filters definitely work in general, I use them.

I'm not sure if it'll fix your problem but the above should use curly
brackets, ie:

$$ \sqrt{x+y} $$

A simple test to verify if the LaTeX filters are working would be to just
put in
$$ x $$

and you should get an x back in a LaTeX math font, which looks quite
different to regular text (it's sort of italic).

If you don't get that, then the LaTeX filters are not working on your
system for some reason. That might be down to it not being enabled
(though you say you've enabled it). If that's not it, you might want to
ask your hosting company to look into it as there's not much more you can
do. There may be some missing component.

Hi Mark,
I am going through 1st year simplification
of powers and square roots at the moment.
