Hi all,

Our school is thinking of upgrading some of our current interactive whiteboards with new smart boards. We have narrowed it down to two possibilities - A Clevertouch board or an ActivInspire smart board. Both are roughly the same cost.

Is anybody using either board or are there any clear advantages/drawbacks to either version?

All replies greatly appreciated!

Claire

HI Claire,

We have 3 of the Clevertouch boards in school. We really like them, they are easy to use and are very intuitive. The android can be a bit slow when you are writing on the Presentation (powerpoint style app). Our other frustration is that you cannot download any other apps other then the apps that come with the board: browser, airplay style app, a whiteboard, etc.

Overall, we really like them.

Clare,

Can I ask are they boards or panels you are looking at?

Promethean (which uses ActicInspire Software) do a board and a panel but I think Clevertouch only supply panels now.

The Promethean Board is about ¼ the price of a good sized (75”) panel. Any smaller is too small in a typical classroom.

Panel versus panel it really comes down to preference in Software (both are very popular and friendly) and of course support (not promised support but actual support in real life)

What make are your old boards? I am looking for a good secondhand SmartBoard.

Joe

Hi,

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear! It's the panels we're thinking of investing in. I use ActivInspire quite a lot so would I be safer off investing in a Promethean panel?

I don't have an exact age for my current board Joe but I'll ask the IT co-ordinator when they were purchased. It's in great working order though.

Hi David and Claire,

It sounds like you have the CleverTouch “V Series”. It’s bigger sibling, the CleverTouch “Plus”, provides access to its own ‘CleverStore’ of Apps …and is a more open system than the V.

Equally, the Promethean Panel (as well as the MiTouch, afaik) provide access to the Google Play Store.

Bear in mind the other advice on this forum, that most Teachers tend to stick with a small number of apps

Kind regards,

David
