Hi CESI’ers

I wonder if you would be interested in conducting a straw poll here just to see how many of our schools are using Interactive technology in their classrooms on a daily basis as I think it would be of major help to many schools struggling with small budgets and aid them in deciding on future proofing their classroom technology for the next 5 to 10 years

Over the years we have installed ebeam interactive technology, Interactive Whiteboards, and more recently Interactive Projectors and now Interactive Panels.

I am in classrooms on a daily basis and can safely say that Interactivity is seldom used during class; sure a minority uses the pen or finger touch facility to write notes or change screens.

For educational apps the majority use their classroom PC or notebook attached to the projector/panel  others use iPad or android tablets via wifi, Visualisers are also used.

Hopefully we will get a decent response and it should benefit all involved

We have two interactive whiteboards (eBeam) which are rarely, if ever, used.  We have a trolley of iPads.  These have allowed for much more interactive options in class as they facilitate each individual to interact simultaneously.  Apps like padlet, quizlet live, kahoot etc are used in many classes.  Where students work in groups, their work can be presented on screen using AirPlay on iPad and Airserver on teacher's PC.

Hi Val,

I'm a primary school resource teacher so I don't have interactivity in my own room.

However I do station teach in colleagues' classrooms and am in and out of their rooms regularly collecting and dropping back the pupils that come out to me.

This is what I see:

Junior Infants - Jolly Phonics software with the opportunity for the pupils to select the correct sound/word etc by touching the screen.  They also practice their letter formation.  Progressing through Bua na Cainte

Senior Infants - progressing through Bua na Cainte Irish program, some writing over other documents using Smart Ink

1st Class - Bua na Cainte and Smart Ink over online Planet Maths book.  Starting and stopping countdown timer during Station teaching

4th Class - Class homework written on board and then saved for future reference (ie next morning).   Interactive maps.

I'm not in the other rooms much so I can't comment on them.

It is true to say in my school that our Smart Boards are not used to their full potential.  And when I was in a mainstream class I didn't use it as much as I could have.

I think the use of e.g. an iPad with Apple TV is potentially as (or more) effective.

Paul
