Hi all,
Just a follow up on this… if anyone wants to take the long way around - there are a few more steps, but it completely bypasses any of the “dodgy-ness” of using a 3rd party downloader…
Essentially, it just uses VLC Player (free) to get the hidden YouTube streaming URL. Once you get this, you just open in a browser and then you can save the video locally to your machine.
I’ll try to keep steps simple…
1) Find YouTube video you want
2) Copy URL
3) Open VLC Player
4) Go to “File” Menu > choose “Open Network” (Mac) or
Go to “Media” Menu > choose “Open Network Stream” (PC)
5) In the resulting window, paste URL into requesting field.
6) Hit “Open” (Mac) or “Play” (PC) button
7) Video will now play… pause playback
8) Go to “Window” Menu (Mac) or
Go to “Tools” Menu (PC)
9) Choose “Media Information”
10) In the resulting window, see “Location” at the bottom
11) Copy this [very long] URL
12) Return to your browser and paste URL in new window or tab
13) Video should now play in this window.
14) Right-click and choose “Download” (Mac) or
Right-click and choose “Save Video as…" (PC)
15) File will automatically be called “videoplayback” - rename to your choice
16) Save. Done.
Note here that “Official” videos (such as those from Vevo, Official Music Videos, etc. won’t work - but then again, most of these also won’t work using other services either)
Long-winded, but if you’re in any way worried about viruses (which you should be) - then this may be the best option (and hopefully will continue to work).
If this is too confusing - let me know and I’ll do a quick video showing the steps.
Cheers!
Chris
