A Chairde,

I am involved in the ADAPT AI in the Classroom project, which has an online course and a series of workshops for teachers currently being run around the country:

There is a particular deterministic framing of the project title - AI in the classroom - which is not unproblematic in light of some recent calls to keep AI out of educatio
Plus, the project is sponsored by Big Tech, but we try to navigate these issues and tensions with teachers as we go, and the feedback from participants has been hugely positive to date 😊

I second John's suggestion of JISC as an excellent source of information on AI in education.

If anyone is interested in Explainable AI (XAI) and the requirements of the EU AI Act for education, I was a co-author of this report of an expert group to the Commission:

Lastly, in case of interest, Dublin City University is currently funding six PhD scholarships in teacher education research, and one of the topics is

"Teaching/Teachers in the Age of Artificial Intelligence"

Feel free to contact me about any of the above

Best wishes,

Eamon

Hiyall
Can anyone recommend really good CPD options on AI in education for
secondary school teachers. I stress *really good* because unfortunately
I've seen and heard of speakers varying from too basic to downright
insulting spoofers. I won't go into details 😅
And yes, I realise that AI in its nature is evolving rapidly in so many
ways. I feel there's a massive opening there, not just in my neck of the
woods, but nationally, for a provision of detailed, informed, up to date
and relevant CPD on AI in education.

I do cross-curricular AI training all over the world and I often come to
Ireland too. Here is a menu of resources I've put together and suggest
teachers cherry pick what they'd like me to train them on:

Hiya John
Should've explained a bit further, it's for the benefit of my colleagues
I'm enquiring. Very few educators are coming in cold to AI at this stage.

Rather than looking at specific tools, plugins or extensions, I'm thinking
of the general ethics around AI in education, the dangers & the benefits...
where we're at & where we're going with it etc

Hi Pat,

The ADAPT AI Centre has some nice online supports as well as in person
workshops. I like what I've seen so far:

The ICT in Education conference takes place on Saturday 18th October on the
Thurles campus of the Technological University of the Shannon. This year
we celebrate our 21st birthday and we would love for you to join us. Our
theme is *Lifespan Learning *and to reflect this we have presentations
throughout the day from educators across the spectrum from early years
through primary, secondary, third level and further education.

Due to unforeseen circumstances Pam Moran and Ira Socol will no longer be
available to deliver the keynote presentation as previously announced,
however we are delighted to have Dr Leigh Graves Wolf step in. Leigh’s
keynote will pick up on the themes previously put forward by Pam and Ira on
the topic of “Sustaining Humanity in an Artificial Intelligence World”.
Leigh will also share perspectives on the topic of “The Portrait of a
Graduate” during a panel discussion with Ashling Sheehan Boyle, Mark
Delahunty and Lorraine Hickey facilitated by Dr Conor Galvin.

This year we are including a PhDMeet on Friday 17th October from 2 –
4.30pm. This session is aimed at doctoral students and we have some slots
still available so if you are interested in sharing your research to date
please add your details at
https://ictedu.ie/conference-25/research-symposium/.

We also have a STEAM evening on the evening of Friday 17th from 7 – 9 pm.
This is an informal session where attendees will learn in a fun and
engaging way through maker-based learning. If you have an activity to
share let us know at Submissions 2025 – ICT in Education
<https://ictedu.ie/conference-25/submissions-2025/>.

You can find further details of the conference including the schedule,
speaker information and booking for the PhDMeet, the STEAM evening and the
conference at ICT in Education <https://ictedu.ie/>.

Get in touch if you have any queries

Pam
