Hi everyone!

Our local national school (classified as rural) has finally been given the green light to transition from POTS (copper phone lines) and fixed wireless internet to a FTTP fiber connection c/o the NBI rollout. Their on-premise PBX is nearing EOL (may have already passed actually) and while functional probably needs to be replaced as their transition away from POTS (Eir are barely managing to keep the lines alive as it is).

I'm interested to hear from other schools that have made such a transition, what solution / architecture they ended up with and any other lessons learnt. My guess is that value for money will be paramount but also keen to embrace modern tools that benefit the whole school community (e.g. adding ability for parents to leave messages for specific teachers, etc).

I will of course try and come back after the change to share the experience so others can benefit in due course.

Thanks in advance!

From a telephony standpoint 3CX is a good solution - we adopted this a few years ago and it has given us few problems. There is a mobile app so you don't have to have a physical handset in each classroom. Your mobile becomes your virtual extension. You can set core working hours and what to do with calls outside those hours.
