Hi everybody!
We are looking at changing our TY computer course. We are wondering if anyone knows of a scheme of work or has an outline of a programme where you introduce different operating systems, like Windows, MAC and Linux or similar.
Also, what programmes would you run as a choice ? We were discussing graphics, coding, film editing...
Any suggestions would be welcome!
Many thanks,
Sandrine

Hi Sandrine,

I introduced my students to GAMEMAKER last year. It's been great!!! It's been HUGELY successful - the students love it (they work in pairs) so it encourages collaborative work and independence of thought.

Last year some of my students created an app that promoted Milk in school - resulting in them winning the national dairy council's MILK IT awards.

This year 8 students were shortlisted for the Eircom Junior Spiders Awards with two of them taking the Overall Prize in the Senior Category last Tuesday!

With Gamemaker you don't need any coding experience whatsoever everything is visual  ….

I have notes on how I got on, some tutorials etc uploaded onto my site at

Also - I'm presenting on this very topic at the ICT in Ed conference next saturday ….  http://www.lit.ie/ictedu

If you have any questions etc let me know.

Mary

Hi Sandrine

Have you looked into the Raspberry Pi? It runs Linux operating system and you can run Scratch coding on it!
