I'm putting together some notes for beginner python and wondering if anyone can recommend an online platform which student can use through their Safari browser.

Failing that, a free IDE app for IPAD !

Thanks

Great question, I’m in the same position.. most students will use phones or devices to tune into my classes this coming Monday (we use MS teams) .. I want to continue our Python, In the classroom we were using Thonny. So any suggestions that will ensure I can present a solution to my students who may not have access to a laptop or desktop and will be tuning in using their devices will be welcomed!!
Regards

I found http://www.pythontutor.com/visualize.html#mode=edit to be very good, as you can step and re-run your code step by step.
Another useful site for producing teaching materials is: Trinket, you can make little working samples of code to drop into online notes with it.
Finally, coding bat is great for students who might want to go out and play with finger exercises on their own.
I trust all of this will help.

Laurence,
I should have added what’s great about the link you provided is: I can give the link to students in our teams chat, the students click on the link which opens the online IDE, they can start typing their code straight away.. without the need for downloading, without registering etc, and without distractions in the form of links dotted around the IDE that might distract the students from the task at hand, which is vital when running an online class for secondary.
Kind Regards

Hi everyone

I prepared this Google Slidedeck based on a teachers instruction manual I found on https://www.compsci.ie

I changed it up a bit so that students were to use https://trinket.io  I discovered that you can't download the code for Python3 trinkets, which is a bit of a nuisance. You can however download the code for regular Python trinkets.

My intention was to have some Google Forms in Classroom for the 'reflections' and Assignments in Classroom to submit screenshots/.txt files of code in action.

But then I found out I won't actually be teaching Python for now 👾😂

Does anyone know anything about CPD for Computer Science? We don't teach it yet, but I would love to.

Happy New Year

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I'll ne returning to this thread later.

For now I'm going to avoid apps and work in the W3schools python tutorial (it works on iPads and mobile too).
They wont be able to save but it's only for concept introduction so far.

Just returning to this search for online Python environment.

I've had a go at repl.it and it seems pretty clean and straightforward. No real teacher connection to students a/c (without paying anyway), but I might just go with screenshots for homework.

repl.it is great for students to share work if they are working between home and school. Also great for giving start code and allowing them to fork. Also lots of libraries now working on the repl.it VMs that don't work on other online IDEs.
