Are there any primary schools out there who have managed to install a reliable wirelss network? With increasing deployment of mobile devices, this is probably an issue that a lot of schools have run into or will in the future. We have a set of netbooks that we have trouble with when trying to connect wirelessly (coverage drops throughout the school) and we're exploring the idea of using tablets. However, we would ideally like to have a more robust wireless solution in place first. Is this possible for primary schools, or are we limited by our narrow bandwith?

Hi Nigel
We spent some money last year upgrading all necessary equipment, best thing we ever did. Everything is now wireless including printer connections. It also supports mobile devives that kids bring in. The one thing worth checking is the licences per day per device. I'm not explaining this very well but basically some routers will only support less than 100 devices per day, after that you cannot connect to them. We spent bit extra and got routers that go way beyond what we need.
Call if you want to know any more.

Hope this helps.
Bryan

Cheers Brian, must give you a call at some stage.

I'm reading a lot about various solutions, Ruckus seems to be very good, but I'm worried that our bandwith just isn't enough to support minimum 18 classrooms with laptops, computer room with 18 desktops, a number of SET rooms with desktops, 30 netbooks connecting wirelessly and, more than likely, a set of tablets to come.

Ruckus are great - but a serious investment.
