Managing iPads in Primary School

The school I work in is thinking about purchasing a number of iPads for teachers and pupils, approx 20 iPads in total.
The iPads would be shared among classes (15 iPads for pupils) - with pupils working in a ratio of 2 pupils to 1 iPad.
I have a number of quotations at this point in time.

If anyone out there has been through this process before I would love to get some thoughts/feedback on the following:

Did you purchase a Sync/Charge cart to store and sync the pupils iPads or how do you manage syncing/charging the iPads?

Did you get Apple TV & AirPlay ?

The prices we are been quoted for cases seem very high - did anyone find any cheaper reliable alternatives.
