Dear Mekonnen and Tesfaye
I have now read your research outline in more detail. Your research
questions give you plenty of scope for exploring the topic. I like the
imagination and breadth evident in the research plan. From experience
of doing a lot of peer editing and peer reviewing, I think you need to
be prepared to teach the students how to do this - they will need a
lot of support and explicit guidance because they are going to become
their own critics and assessors and this is a change in power balance.
In my experience, students will only take it seriously if they know
that their critique and comments "count".The kinds of support material
you write and the way you mange the lessons will be crucial here. Not
only are you two teachers attempting something new, but so are the
students.
I have far more to say, but as I work only 10 minutes from your
office, it would be much more productive for me to talk to you in
person.
Contact me about when I can come and see you and talk to you about the
teaching marterials you are preparing.
Best wishes
Sylvia
