Are you ready to make the move to Windows 8.1? Reviews says that with Windows 8.1, Microsoft made some significant improvements, including restoring the much-missed start button. Make sure that your upgrade experience goes smoothly by installing avast! 2014 first.

Avast! 2014 has Windows 8.1 certification which ensures that it meets compatibility standards and performs well on the Windows platform. Older versions of avast! Antivirus do not carry that certification, so if you update to Windows 8.1, it will disable avast! and you will be unprotected.

When I try and run the version selector as Administrator I get an error "Unable to determine the current TestStand Version". THe Version Selector then starts with hte "Current Active Version = N/A" and Launch sequence buttons are greyed out.

The select Version section all looks correct with both 32 and 64 bit paths showing correctly and the "2014 (14.0)" showing in the Installed Teststand drop down. When I click "Make Active" I get a error dialog that is titled "Attention" and says "Program Error".

I checked on my WIn 7 machine and it was having the same problem but at least 1 of the error messages gave me a little more info. It looks like there were a number of services not running that need to be and that could be due to Avast antivirus and file system shield.

I needed to start the NI TestStand Service and confirm an exception in the Avast popup. I also started a few other NI serves that were listed as automatic but not running (not sure if these were TestStand or LabVIEW ones). After doing that I was able to select the new version.

Going back to my Win 8 machine however I don't actually have the NI TestStand Service listed so I am thinking that Avast may have block some of the services from installing. Will try again with Avast file system shield turned off and see what happens.

I think you might need to repair your installation of the version selector (or re-install it). TestStand 2014 does not use the ini file for version selecting (that is there only for older versions of teststand). I suspect you might have the 2013 version of the version selector installed. Perhaps Avast prevented the lastest version from installing. Also, you do not need to run the version selector as admin. Running it as a regular user should work fine.

Looking at my options for repair of NI software under Control Pannel, Programs, Uninstall a program, National Instruments, Uninstall/Change, there is no listing for version selector so it seems that it should be part of the TestStand 2014 installs.

*Note older versions of Windows are no longer supported by Microsoft, nor the Marshall University network, and will not receive the latest operating system security updates. It is recommended to upgrade to the latest version of Windows.

I can confirm the same problem, I tried every mentioned solution from FAQ and every other threads regarding this, including: reinstalling, file integrity check, vista compatibility, run as admin, no cloud saving, antivirus and firewall exceptions (exception->reinstall->integrity check), I have the latest amd gfx drivers (I even had 14.6 betas but switched back to last stable 14.4), plenty of free space on disk (internal, not flash), tried to run exe directly from game folder, with AV and firewall both disabled. Every time it shows white screen with list of folders of the drive I have the game installed on.

It seems I found a temporary solution, but it is not the way to resolve this at all. Ive found an older version of the game on the web (v1.3.2) and tried to overwrite its core files over the current ones in game steam folder and it runs game without a problem every time, I didnt need to use any of the fixes previously mentioned, AV false positive is definitely not causing this IMO.

So it seems that something went wrong with one of the earlier versions and created that bug. The game is really enjoyable so its a real shame that it doesnt work properly and people need to use rather weird methods to actually start the game to enjoy it. Please fix this, its really annoying. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about these troubles. The White/Black screen issue can occur for a few reasons. However as you are not getting the Steam achievements either that may be a clue, as that is not the case for most users.

Hi guys Iam new one there. Please I am going through the PS and I would like to know if its possibile. I would like to know/find, if exist script to display windows version for all local users? something like:

And what I really want to find out. Example, I used get_wmiobject -class win32_useraccount to see ale acount in our domain, only to have a list of accounts, than for example I wanted to know, some users have win7, some has win10. There is possible to send email and ask all the users, or type some powershell command and find it thanks to this tool (who has win7 who win10). Or other example, there we use avast antivirus, now we dont know, who has and who hasnt avast installed. This was only for my practising, to find it out. I only wanted to explain my goals:-))

The point of allowing you to switch to the old version is in case
there are any compatibility problems you might run into. The new
version has more features and has received a lot of speed
optimizations.Ryan

As for your antivirus software, if the Gmail Help says it will cause
that error, then that's the problem. There are other AV options which
don't have the problem, assuming you don't need some particular
feature that PC Tools offers. I personally love Avast, which has a
free (other than completely spam free registration). The home version
can be found at -avast-home.htmlRyan

Firefox just won't work properly if my antivirus is still enabled... as soon as I disable my Antivirus completely it starts working...I've been using avast and Firefox together for years now and it only started 1-2 moths ago...

Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).

Hi Mysterix, it's very difficult to think of how an external program could break the address/search bar and new tab page. Unless Avast is locking Firefox data files; perhaps you can set an exception for your Firefox profile folders here:

While a user may have their reasons for not wanting to update to the latest version of macOS, having a device that is not up-to-date can create some security issues. In addition to not receiving the new features that arrive in a macOS update, users are also missing out on security patches and fixes for typical exploits.

Essentially, if you are running an outdated version of macOS, your system is likely less secure, especially depending on how old the software you are using actually is. Keeping antivirus software on your device is likely a good idea if you are running an older version of macOS.
